Abstract
We compare the performance of the Discrete Wigner-Ville distribution (DWV) technique to a number of standard techniques for estimating the spectral content of one or more slowly varying sinusoids in the presence of additive white noise. These alternate techniques include the sliding, windowed Discrete Fourier transform or short-time Fourier transform (STFT), a standard phase derivative discriminator, and an adaptive Least Mean Square line canceller. To make the comparison interesting we have chosen to examine a range of signal to noise ratios which bracket the threshold performance regions of the standard spectral estimators.
