Abstract
Freak waves are both extremely large waves and highly transient time. Such a wave may lead to damage of ships to deaths. In this paper, to describe the connection between freak wave and wave essential factor, we use WAVEWATCHⅢ model simulating freak wave in the Japan Sea to explore freak wave,with the importing of ECMWF re-analysis wind field. By this way, we successfully simulate the formation of freak wave in the random wave. By analyzing the statistical elements of waves, it is found that the occurrence time of freak wave is in a medium sea state. It is unlikely to generate freak waves due to the nonlinear interaction of waves.By analyzing the wave spectrum, The main cause of the freak wave event is the interaction between current and swell.
