Abstract
Cesium, potassium and silver ion-exchange processes in three commercially available soda-lime and Nd-doped glasses are investigated for waveguide fabrication. A spin-coating technique is employed to make Er- and Nd-doped phosphate layers on the waveguides in soda-lirne glass. Transmission, absorption and emission properties of the waveguides are studied. Optical amplification in Nd-doped waveguides is demonstrated.
