Abstract
Advances in computer graphics have permitted statisticians to devise dynamic graphics displays which allow them to show, control, and interact with moving pictures of data. These include the display of a rotating point clouds and a technique known as 'brushing.' The software system described in this paper brings together these two dynamic techniques for analyzing multivariate data. Color is used to enhance the effect of brushing, and full-color stereoscopic display is used in 3-D point cloud rotation. This system, which is designed to run on Silicon Graphics IRIS 4D-series workstations, implements the two techniques in a highly integrated way. It also adds capabilities for manipulating labels associated with data points, and has a graphical user interface that enhances the use of the methods for data analysis. It is capable of being used interactively with S, a general programming environment for data analysis and graphics.
