This paper presents an experimental investigation on bending effect on the sensing characteristics of normal and tilted fiber Bragg gratings. It has been found that the Bragg wavelength shift was almost proportional to the bending curvature. The shift was related with the relative direction of bending and the incident direction of ultraviolet light during the fabrication process of the fiber Bragg grating. The maximum Bragg wavelength shift was found to be 0.26 nm when the maximum bending curvature reached 2.43 cm-1.
