Abstract
This paper presents in vitro the measuring techniques and experimental results of optical parameters of human lung tissue. Optical properties of biotissue are briefly described in the introduction. A new approach to measure optical parameters has been developed. This indirect approach combines the solution of the diffusion theory with a result of Monte Carlo simulation to calculate the optical parameters of normal and carcinomatous human lung tissues in vitro at the wavelengths of 406.7-415.4 nm, 632.8 nm and 676.4 nm, respectively. We obtained the effective attenuation coefficients (mu) eff and the optical penetration depths (delta) of fresh lung tissue at above violet and red wavelengths, and it is a great help to understand better the optical characteristics of lung tissue in clinical light dosimetry.
