Abstract
This work reports on a systematic study of volumetric energy deposition in tissues for irradiation by a converging laser beam in the vicinity of the beam geometric focal point as a function of beam parameters (diameter, light cone angle) and tissue optical properties (scattering and absorption coefficients, anisotropy factor, refractive index). The task is solved by 3-D Monte-Carlo simulation using variance-reduction Monte-Carlo code and delta-scattering technique for the case of homogeneous and two-layered tissue models at typical for the low level laser therapy operating wavelengths. Efficiency of energy delivery is evaluated at increasing depth of teh focal point location under the tissue.
