Abstract
The introduction of a new high speed video system in the Spring of 1987 doubled the rate at which color video images could be recorded. In addition to the 400 picture per second sampling rate, advances in image sensor technology resulted in a unit with high light sensitivity increasing the number of applications were video instrumentation could be applied. A device called a "Wave Inserter' was also introduced, which allowed an electronic signal to be displayed over the video picture in a manner analogous to oscillography with 16mm rotating-prism. cameras. The purpose of this paper is to review a number of applications where the new hardware results in better image acquisition, and to provide a detailed description of the equipment and its capabilities.
