Abstract
A simple and flexible photonic on–off keying (OOK) modulated impulse radio ultra-wideband (UWB) over fiber communication system is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By introducing a Gaussian signal to the phase modulator, the UWB monocycle pulse is achieved at the output port of a delay interferometer. The UWB doublet pulse is also successfully obtained at the output port of a semiconductor optical amplifier with the injection of the positive monocycle. Only one laser source is introduced in the architecture to guarantee satisfactory dispersion tolerance over a 60-km optical fiber link for UWB OOK sequence, which has potential applications in future high-speed UWB radio over optical fiber access networks.
