Dario Ambrosini graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), where he worked from 1993 to 1995 at the Optics Laboratory of Prof. Franco Gori. Since 1995 he has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Energetics (currently DIIIE, Department of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics) of the University of L'Aquila (Italy), where he is currently a Full Professor.
His research interests include flow visualization and heat and mass transfer, optical metrology and non-destructive testing, thermography, and digital image analysis. In these fields, he has published more than 250 papers in refereed international journals and national and international congresses. He is a member of UIT (Italian Union of Thermal-Fluid Dynamics), OPTICA, and Sigma Xi; he has been a senior member of OSA since 2013 and has been promoted to OPTICA Fellow member in 2023.
D. Ambrosini has been an Associate Editor of the journal Optics and Lasers in Engineering from December 2019 to December 2024. Since January 2025, he has been an Editor of Optics and Lasers in Engineering.
He was the recipient (with G. Schirripa Spagnolo) of the 2001 SPIE Kingslake Medal and Prize and one of the recipients of the 2016 OSA Outstanding Reviewer recognition.
