Abstract
This paper proposes a novel approach for smoke matting and compositing for video sequences. The proposed method is based on the assumption that nearby pixels have similar foreground colors and alpha values. The matting does not require user interaction, nor a physics-based model for smoke. Moreover, even multicolored smoke can be matted, since no constraints are placed on foreground color. Meanwhile, the compositing can modify smoke colors by linear color transformation. Experimental results show that the proposed method can matte the smoke consisting of multiple colors and alter the colors without impairing natural feeling in the compositing step.
