4 October 2023 3D imaging of pulsed laser ablation at 1 million frames per second using a rotary mirror and strobe photography

Abstract
Strobe photography is an imaging technique with a long history of being used to capture ultrafast dynamics but requires repeatability in the event being recorded. For some dynamics processes, such as light interactions with biological tissues, repeatability is not guaranteed due to the high degree of heterogeneity of tissue. Here, we present a high-speed strobe imaging system based on a spinning rotary mirror capable of imaging at 1 million FPS with high pixel resolution (300 x 400) pixels. 2D and 3D views of the event can be captured by using a single more multiple imaging paths through the scene. This enables 3D reconstruction using projection methods.
