The stability and safety of a concrete dam are important for hydropower projects. Before analyzing the stability of the dam, it is crucial to collect monitoring data like dam stress, uplifting pressure and dam displacement. In Taipingwan hydropower dam, the vacuum laser collimation system has been applied to monitor the vertical and horizontal displacement on the dam top respectively. According to the displacement monitoring results collected from last 10 years, several conclusions are drawn: there have been no abnormal deformations on the dam body. The long series of measured results show that the vertical and horizontal displacement of the dam changes regularly and periodically. In general, the vertical displacement change of the overflow dam section was basically synchronized with the air temperature. The right bank of the 0# dam section is connected to the mountain, and the displacement change is very small with the annual variation for several years less than 0.7mm. The suggestion for the fifth regular safety assessment is that detailed numerical simulation might be needed to find how the high uplifting pressure influencing the dam stability.
