Abstract
The Very Large Telescope, being build by the European Southern Observatory, has an interferoetric node in which the light of the four 8 eter aperture telescopes, and of a number of smaller telescopes, will be combined coherently to give iilliarcsecond level angular resolution at optical wavelengths on very faint objects. This paper describes current plans to impleMent this mode.
