Abstract
The performance characterization and optimization of a YLF-Er laser operating at four spectral ranges around O. 85p l. 2p 1. 7 and 2. 8u at comparable conditions are presented for the first time. In addition the pulse forming network and the mirror transmission were optimized. The laser output energy in the normal and the Q-switched modes as well as the Q-switched pulse duration were measured. The temperature dependencies of the threshold energy were studied. In a more efficient laser arrangement output energies of 0. 4 J 0. 25 J 0. 23 J and 0. 1 J were obtained with slope efficiencies of 0. 68 0. 25 0. 57 and 0. 13 for laser wavelengths O. 85p l. 23p l. 73p and 2. 87p respectively in the normal mode. In the Q-switched mode the pulses with output energies of 210 mJ 40 mJ and 100 mJ with a pulse duration of about 50 ns were obtained for O. 85p l. 23p and l. 73p respectively at 120 J pump energy. 1.
