Abstract
The Long-Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS), to be launched in the ESA's Infrared SpaceObservatory, covers the wavelength range 45-180 µm at both moderate (-200) and high(-104) spectral resolving power. This paper describes how the scientific requirementswere translated into a space-qualified design.
