Abstract
The visualization of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations is typically a post process. The engineer runs a simulation and stores the results in a solution file. The solution is then visualized using a CFD visualization package. If a simulation is time varying, a solution must be stored for various simulation times. Time-varying solution files are often very large, ranging in size from megabytes to gigabytes depending on the spatial and temporal resolution of the solution. Disk space soon becomes a limiting factor for the resolution of a solution. One way to avoid the disk problem is to visualize the solution one time step at a time concurrent with the generation of the solution, discarding the solution and storing the visualization. This paper will discuss some of the key issues of concurrent visualization as well as an implementation of this technique.
