Abstract
The R&D group at Paramax Systems Canada is working on a demonstration model of a multi- sensor data fusion (MSDF) implementation for the Canadian Patrol Frigate. The conditions are made very realistic by the use of the Software Test and Development Facility's situated on the premises in Montreal. The development is done on a SUN SPARC-10. The inputs are read from a Shipboard Integrated Processing and Display System bus via a monitor node and an interface card. The program consists of multiple separate UNIX processes communicating via the Inter Process Communication protocol. For evaluation purposes, two databases are updated corresponding to the MSDF and the usual tracking. The program fuses the tracks provided by the sensors as if they were contacts. The paper describes the overall MSDF design as well as the tracking and identification algorithms used in the project. The necessary compromises that were made are presented with explanations. A discussion of the expected results is included. The paper ends with the improvements that are already foreseen.
