Abstract
As the demand for optical storage performance increases, the actuator designs have to accommodate the increased requirements. System tradeoffs need to be made for the various elements of the design and the best system architecture for cost and performance needs to be chosen. This article will show the consequences for the actuator designs and their relationship to the drive and media aspects.
