Abstract
The existence of a large number of vacancies in Cr2O3-x was revealed by X- ray absorption spectra and by measurements of the magnetic susceptibility versus temperature. Also, the chemical shift in stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric (alpha) -Cr2O3 was determined from the X-ray absorption Cr K edge spectra. The difference in the chemical shifts is produced by the decrease of valence charge of chromium in the non-stoichiometric compound.
