Abstract
A multi-mode fiber-optic accelerometer, based on intensity modulation, designed for vibration measurement in electrical machines is presented. The sensor shows an acceleration sensitivity of 2181 m/s2; range of frequency of 0 - 600 Hz; resolution of 0.01 g and linearity error of less than 5%. This accelerometer has already been used in 100,000 kW high power generator. The wave shape and frequency spectrum of the vibration of stator winding were recorded for the first time in China.
