Abstract
The advent in position-emission tomography of the measurement of the differential time-of-flight of annihilation photons, in addition to their line-of-flight, has necessitated the development of new reconstruction algorithms to replace the conventional filtered back-projection algorithm used when only line-of-flight information is available. The "confidence-weighted" and "estimated posterior-density weighted" algorithms are reviewed. The structure of these algorithms makes the use of parallel, pipelined processing-architectures possible and perhaps necessary for their practical use in clinical studies.
