Abstract
The survivability of IP over WDM network gains importance as the volume of traffic to be transported by the network keeps growing. In this article we investigate the restoration schemes for handling dynamic traffic demand failures in IP/MPLS over WDM networks. We classify the various restoration schemes into two broad categories: recovery at the lowest layer and recovery at the highest layer. Six specific restoration schemes will be introduced and analyzed. Simulation will be performed to compare the network utilization of the six restoration schemes.
