Abstract
We report on experimental investigations towards application of birefringent microstructured fibers as active elements of fiber optic sensors for measurements of different physical parameters. The sensing characteristics including spectral behavior of phase and group modal birefringence, polarimetric sensitivity to temperature, hydrostatic pressure and elongation are presented for three different index guiding microstructured fibers and hollow core photonic bandgap fiber with residual birefringence.
