Abstract
This paper presents a brief functional description of an advanced development RF-4C reconnaissance pod system. This system employs a high resolution return beam vidicon in a "snapshot"TV mode to acquire and present, via video data link, high quality near real time imagery at a remote ground site. Flight test measurements, instrumentation, and system performance are presented in the form of analytical results and selected imagery. The effectiveness of system operating modes in compensating for weather related image degradation is discussed. Sensor test bed motion and temperature results of the environmental instrumentation are presented as a function of flight profile. Importance of additional pod sway braces and proper auto-pilot operation are demonstrated. In spite of an expected shift of pod resonance from the design, and larger airframe imparted motions than indicated from previous data, no significant reduction in sensor resolving power was caused by payload motion.
