Abstract
Recent studies show that wavelet-based image enhancement methods provide a high quality in enhanced images. However, images enhanced by most wavelet-based methods have less spatial resolution because the critical down- sampling is included in wavelet transform. In this paper, we propose a useful image enhancement scheme based on nonsubsampled contourlet transform. Because edges and texture are fundamental in image representation, enhancing them is an effective means of enhancing spatial resolution. Experimental results show that the proposed enhancement scheme is able to enhance the detail and increase the contrast of the enhanced image at the same time.
