The most common array performance measures are read noise, charge well capacity, and responsivity. From these the minimum signal, maximum signal, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and dynamic range can be calculated. Full characterization includes quantifying the various noise sources, charge transfer efficiency, spectral quantum efficiency, linearity, and pixel nonuniformity. These additional metrics are necessary for the most critical scientific applications. Because the array is the basic building block of the camera, camera terminology is often used for array specifications.
