Abstract
A streak camera is used to capture fast light pulses. However, it is limited to the visible and near-infrared regions of the optical spectrum. We investigated deflection of a light beam by use of an electro-optic deflector. The crystal streak camera is based on the direct deflection of light by an electro-optic crystal to an image sensor for recording. The unit is capable of broad wavelength response that depends on the transmission range of the deflecting crystal and the sensitivity range of the image sensor. Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) has a spectral response ranging from the visible region to 5 micrometers . Using the prototype of the crystal streak camera, we measured the light pulse (1600 nm approximately 1900 nm) generated from an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) of MgO doped LiNbO3(MgO:LiNbO3). The measured pulse width of the OPO was about 6 ns at 1800 nm. In this case the temporal resolution was about 2 ns.
