Abstract
A photochemical dosimetric system has been developed to record the spatially resolved light dose absorbed by a photosensitizer in a tissue-simulating medium. Relative measurements from these dosimeters match theoretical calculations of the number of photons absorbed per unit volume. These dosimeters have been used to compare the relative penetration of high intensity pulsed irradiation versus continuous wave for benzoporphyrin derivative monoacid ring `a' under typical tissue irradiation conditions. Calculations and experiments indicated an increase in relative light penetration for high intensity irradiation, due to transient changes in sample absorption. The relative deposited dose of different pulse intensities has been compared with the numerical simulation.
