Profile Summary

Dr. Sourvanos embarked on his journey in dentistry at the University of Southern California (USC), where he completed both his undergraduate and doctoral studies. At USC, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and a Doctor of Dental Surgery, laying a solid foundation for his specialized career in periodontics. He furthered his academic pursuits at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving a Doctor of Science in Dentistry, a Specialty Certificate in Periodontics, and a Certificate in Translational Research-Regulatory Sciences.

During his time at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Sourvanos engaged in two Postdoctoral Fellowships funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH). His first fellowship allowed exploration into the realm of translational research with the Perelman School of Medicine Institute for Translational Medicine and Applied Therapeutics (ITMAT). The second focused on niche multidisciplinary training with a cohort in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics through the Schools of Dental Medicine and Engineering at the Center for Innovation and Precision Dentistry (CiPD). This multidisciplinary training has uniquely positioned him at the intersection of innovative dental practices and cutting-edge research.

Dr. Sourvanos' scholarly endeavors are recognized through numerous awards, grants, and honors, including the prestigious 2023 American Dental Association (ADA) Crest and Oral-B Promising Research Award and the 2021 American Association Dental Oral Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) William B. Clark Fellowship – Clinical Research Periodontology. His research presentations and experience, particularly in photodynamic therapy and photobiomodulation, underscore his dedication to advancing dental translational science.
